Hi Raphael,
(cc: mirr...@debian.org <mailto:mirr...@debian.org>)

I'm writing to you to let you know that httpredir.debian.org
<http://httpredir.debian.org> is sometimes unusable from Japan because
it can redirect me to China mirrors. China hosts are often inaccessible
from outside of China due to... you know. I recommend that httpredir
should select China hosts only for China users.

For example, from my home ISP, I'm redirected to inaccessible mirror
server mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn <http://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn>.

% curl -v http://httpredir.debian.org/debian/
* Hostname was NOT found in DNS cache
*   Trying 128.31.0.66...
* Connected to httpredir.debian.org <http://httpredir.debian.org>
(128.31.0.66) port 80 (#0)
> GET /debian/ HTTP/1.1
> User-Agent: curl/7.35.0
> Host: httpredir.debian.org <http://httpredir.debian.org>
> Accept: */*
>
< HTTP/1.1 302 Found
< Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2016 16:46:09 GMT
* Server Apache is not blacklisted
< Server: Apache
< Location: http://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/debian/
< Content-Type: text/plain
< X-Clacks-Overhead: GNU Terry Pratchett
< Transfer-Encoding: chunked
<

Also, I observed I'm sometimes redirected to mirrors.telecom.bg
<http://mirrors.telecom.bg>, which does not make much sense for Asian
users. I totally understand IP geolocation is a very hard problem, but
there seems room for improvement in mirror selection logic.

Best regards,
Shuhei / nya
