I think it might help to have LightDM logs from both attemps (/var/log/lightdm/*) as well as the .xsession-errors for both. Also, can the second user login correctly at all? Can you update /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/01_debian.conf and replace the line [SeatDefaults] by the line [Seat:*] ?
