Against which library your programs will be build at compile time is decided upon where the symlink from /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so (without version number) points to. You can control this by installing exactly one of the following packages: libmysqlclient10-dev libmysqlcleitn12-dev libmysqlcleitn14-dev The only thing to be avoided is to link more than one version of a shared library into one binary but that again is under your control and does not conflict with what my programs were linked against. bye, -christian-
