Hello, I believe that the bug you mentioned is easily resolved by following the suggestion of the QUICK START section of the man page. It suggest that you set (if you use bash)
export PARINIT='rTbgqR B=.,?_A_a Q=_s>|'
before running par.
I admit that I had not done this either so your bug had me running for
a moment since I have been using par instead of fmt for a while without
realising this problem.
So perhaps the defaults need to be set correctly.
