Hi Rob and co., http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=293397 seems to be affecting all GNOME applications.
Here's a test case for gedit:
[File -> Print]
Select "Generic Postscript" as your printer and choose Custom as your
Location. It doesn't matter if you change the string "lpr" or not.
[Print]
Nothing is printed, but here's the STDERR output:

Printing still works fine if you choose lpr as your location instead of
explictly specifying it in the custom box. Personally, I'm using CUPS
here as my printing backend.
