FTR, same here. Just tried building in sbuild, new stretch chroot, KVM VM with 8GB RAM, 0 swap, 4 vCPUs, built just fine. Given the output of `free` now, I'd estimate the build took less than 2GB of RAM. Please try on a known good machine. -- ,''`.
