Hello Jerome, I agree there is a problem with gap(1) generation and I am working on it, but in the official Debian 4r8p3-2 gap-core package for amd64, i386 and ppc (at least), the version is listed as 4.8.3. usage: gap [OPTIONS] [FILES] .IP run the Groups, Algorithms and Programming system, Version 4.8.3 So maybe you have rebuilt the package yourself and you hit the bug with gap(1) generation, or there is another issue.
