I already saw the new patch and its behaviour is indeed no different
than the 2.0 patch :-(

However, I just noticed that qiv's original code is broken in the same
way. Under Gnome (X.org 6.8.1 on PowerPC) it behaves exactly the same
as with your patch; i. e. the background is not changed, instead the
window is duplicated (including decorations) and persists even after
qiv has exited. The window is still operable, redraws after
restauration from minimization, but has no attached process any more.

So this is not a fault of your patch, but rather a fault of qiv/imlib.
Thus, if the patch works for you, I can as well apply it since it does
not make things worse for me.

Adam, any idea to this? Do you have the possibility to check this out
under Gnome?
