Hi Simon,

First, sorry for my late answer.

Here is the review I've done so far concerning a potential migration python-mpd2.

Changed Bug title to 'please consider switching to python-mpd2 for upstream

python-mpd is now abandoned and unmaintained for sure.

The "de facto" official fork is indeed python-mpd2.

There are currently in testing 3 packages still depending on python-mpd:

    aptitude search ~Dpython-mpd

fookebox - web-based jukebox frontend to mpd
mpdris2 - media player interface (MPRIS2) bridge for MPD
sonata - Client GTK+ pour le démon de lecture musical (MPD)

I did contact mpdris2 about python-mpd2 transition and the maintainer informed me the project was already running fine with it.

sonata is probably dead, there is an active fork though which is already using python-mpd2 [1].

Concerning fookebox I never used it or contacted the maintainer, the project has probably moved to github as well [2].

I already started packaging python-mpd2 [3], not up to date though.

The only blocker would be fookebox once sonata released a stable version.

I'm currently not available to move forward on this.
I may update my python-mpd2 package in the mean time, but I will not be able to fully resume my debian activities until September 2016. I'm aware of the freeze starting in November/January, but I cannot assure I will manage to work on it in time.

Anyone willing to step in is welcome, In the mean time I'll try to do the best I can to help to move forward on this.
