Sorry, to clarify what I just said. The host machine I'm seeing this on is running Ubuntu Xenial amd64.
On that host machine, the segfault only happens when the chroot build environment is armhf for Debian Sid or Ubuntu Xenial. The same sources build without error in chroot armhf environments for older distros (Ubuntu Wily, Ubuntu Trusty, Debian Jessie).
