RTFSing, I see it tries to parse /etc/issue. This is wrong as that file is not meant to be machine-parsable, it's a welcome screen meant for humans, supposed to be replaced by the sysadmin (not that many people care about their console login screens these days...). You want something like /etc/debian_version. Related: I see it does BSD detection first which should be wrong on Debian/kfreebsd (untested) -- you want to check /etc/debian_version before that. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (150, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.4.5-x32 (SMP w/6 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: sysvinit (via /sbin/init) Versions of packages inxi depends on: ii bash 4.3-14+b1 ii gawk 1:4.1.3+dfsg-0.1 ii pciutils 1:3.3.1-1.1 ii procps 2:3.3.11-3.0nosystemd1 Versions of packages inxi recommends: ii dmidecode 3.0-2 ii file 1:5.25-2 ii hddtemp 0.3-beta15-52 ii iproute2 4.3.0-1+b1 ii lm-sensors 1:3.4.0-2 ii mesa-utils 8.3.0-1 pn module-init-tools <none> ii net-tools 1.60+git20150829.73cef8a-2 pn sudo <none> ii usbutils 1:007-4 ii x11-utils 7.7+3 ii x11-xserver-utils 7.7+7 inxi suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
