Well I sort of did for the moment (using still 2.6.10)
when everything is compiled and installed and I reboot, the problem
occurs as I described.  However when I remove the relevant moduls.
And then reload them everything is fine!

rmmod ipw2100
rmmod ieee80211
rmmod firmware_class
modprobe firmware_class
modprobe ieee80211
modprobe ipw2100


I thought the problem is caused by /etc/modules-2.6.10
but now it does not matter how the modules are put in that list. I
have to remove and insert them manually after rebooting.
