Hello Mike, I've started with the latest iceweasel (44.0.2-1) installed. Then I've installed via apt "firefox" (latest version) and wondered why iceweasel was not removed in turn. Then I tried to remove iceweasel manually by apt-get remove iceweasel.
apt tried to remove iceweasel and install in turn firefox-esr, which leads to the described error. I hope that this will help Greetings Winnie
