That's not the point. Such bugs may also occur because of dependencies
which are outdated. Reporting bugs in testing is always problematic.

Yeah. But you're barking up the wrong tree. Unless this is a bug which
is only present in Debian, you have to report it to MATE's upstream
bug tracker which can be found in [1]. Debian is primarily dealing
with packaging, fixing such bugs is upstream's job.
