now I"m finding that my clock speed in the numbers of a youtube doubled and no 
sound.html5 videos in youtube are a double speed!

cat mem > /sys/power/state 

resets the screen to dos text mode, character cursor upperleft and absolutely 
no response to input 
or further processing.

Is the behaviour reproducible if you run (as root)
echo mem > /sys/power/state
