Have you experience the problem since then? It's been 3 years and there were no similar reports since then. I suspect that this was at a time when aptitude, apt and dpkg had a different idea about packages that should be appended :arch in multi-arch systems, but this has been fixed long ago and I haven't seen similar problems since then.
