since the development of pyfits is stopped (see homepage), it may be useful to mention this in the package description so that new users are directed to astropy instead of installing pyfits. It may be useful to provide pyfits (as well as pywcs) in Debian for quite a while for compatibility reasons; however there is no reason for a new user to install it.
