if I replace in herbstluftwm's .desktop file the "Exec=herbstluftwm" line by "Exec=herbstluftwm --verbose" it complains it can't find a binary nanmed "herbstluftwm --verbose" (as single name). However [0] explicitely says The Exec key must contain a command line. A command line consists of an executable program optionally followed by one or more arguments. ... Arguments are separated by a space. I'm not totally sure where in the interaction between kdm, xsession and consolekit this goes wrong though.
