With erlang-sd-notify installed, then packages like rabbitmq-server have access to using the type notify. Since some services like rabbitmq take a while to completely stop, using type notify becomes relevent to prevent issues when stopping and starting rabbimq in a short period of time. Without type notify, rabbit can incorrectly report it's status to systemd which can cause problems if stopped/started frequesntly. I don't believe there is an equivalent package that allows the use of similar notifications already in debian. Note that the original author is Peter Lemenkov. However his branch was forked to create https://github.com/Gsantomaggio/erlang-sd_notify.git. Gsantomaggio's was forked to create Jan's https://github.com/jan-grant/erlang-sd_notify.git.
