Did what you have suggested.

Quited osmo
Removed ~/.osmo
Restarted osmo
Added several test data
Backup Data
Restore Data
Everything lost, backup is still a 50 bytes file!

Other thing i have noted by the way:
Config -> General -> Media(sound)player can't be changed, sticks with "play
%s". There is no play on the system. After creating a bash script "play"
which calls mplayer, it did'nt get called (no sound played) even while it
is reachable/findable via PATH. Strange enough i have managed to change
this to "mplayer %s" once, after adding some data. Now it still sticks with
"play %s", while the other options i have changed so far didn't get
rejected.

Note: I always get an request for a password whenever i try "Backup Data",
even when there is no password protected note.
The backup i have successfully restored from an old osmo version does have
a protected note btw.
