Thanks for reporting a bug, and thanks for the patch.

This looks a bit like the issue discussed at
https://github.com/jemalloc/jemalloc/issues/52 in the upstream bug
tracker.

That issue mentions using a few options for ./configure,
"--build=i386-pc-linux-gnu" and "--host=i386-pc-linux-gnu".  Do you
think using that in debian/rules would also solve the issue?

well, you can see that in the build log. I didn't check if this would have other effects.
