Hi Kenshi,

2007-06-24 08:01 Kenshi Muto:
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.5.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I found that an novice user had failed to notice about his typo when
he had tried to install an package with using aptitude (non-interactive
mode).

That was his failure in fact, but I think aptitude may cause such a
mistake.
[...]

It seems bit hard to see why the installation was failed, because
an error reason was already gone above.
It would be better if an error message displays after other messages
such as:

   # aptitude install flashplugin
   Reading package lists...
    <snip>
   Initializing package states...
   Building tag database...

No candidate version found for flashplugin
     flashplugin-nonfree

Thanks for the report.

From the next version on, aptitude will be more strict and will simply
abort earlier if some of the actions cannot be taken, thus preventing
problems such as the one above.

So I am marking the bug as +pending.

Cheers.
