umh, so it seems apt doesn't like to remove packages thare it doesn't
know about.

That thing is probably triggered by
    apt-get install debdelta-
which actually *removes* debdelta.

boring bugs are boring.  :)

Something I want to do is to stop telling apt to remove packages if they
aren't installed, e.g. check whether they are installed (by dpkg-query,
for example) before trying to uninstall them.

The same thing is done also for ccache and aptitude.
