OK, now I know why we misunderstood each other :)
Normally using apt-get, myself, the first place I turned to when needing
this one particular feature, I did not actually check the results of an
aptitude run, but went through the manpage of aptitude, instead. Based
on what I read there, I assumed the feature was missing completely.
We can close this bug, but I would request you add a short line to the
manapge to reflect aptitude install's behaviour. I will not close the bug
myself, as you might want to keep it in order to track the new request.
