(13:53:32) meandtheshell: hi folks - I'm pretty new about using emacs (2 month) - since 2 days I'm reading the "Texinfo manual". But there's a Problem I dont know how to solve. The manual describes how to use "short keys" to save keystrokes http://www.gnu.org/software/texinfo/manual/texinfo/texinfo.html#Inserting But whenever I wanna to type e.g. "C-c C-c c" in order to get "@code{}" it happens that after the first "C-c" emacs asked me "Command: (default View)". I've no idea why this happens - the manual told me the default behavior should be "C-c C-c c" ---> "@code{}". And yes I did "M-x texinfo-mode" Can anyone help a newbie please :-) (13:53:46) nipra [EMAIL PROTECTED]/nipra] entered the room. (13:55:24) ams: meandtheshell: Seems your irc client is silly, and cut of the rest of your message. (13:55:45) ams: C-c C-c c works for me though. (13:56:23) ams: Maybe you bound something to C-c? (13:56:35) ams: C-h k C-c (13:56:39) ams: Or so should tell you. (13:57:39) meandtheshell: hm ... I bound nothing to C-c C-c c. its the default installation under Debian (13:58:01) ams: Try C-h k C-c C-c c (13:58:04) meandtheshell: ok (13:58:06) ams: And see what happens. (14:02:53) meandtheshell: after C-c emacs shows "C-c-" then after the second C-c another window poped up showing "C-c C-c runs the command Tex-command-master ..." (14:03:26) ams: C-c C-c c runs the command [EMAIL PROTECTED] (14:03:26) ams: which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `texinfo.el'. (14:03:30) ams: For my emacs. (14:03:38) ams: Are you using texinfo-mode? (14:03:42) ams: And not tex-mode? (14:03:55) meandtheshell: yes - texinfo-mode (14:03:59) meandtheshell: hm .. (14:04:20) ams: Should say Texinfo in the mode-line. (14:04:38) meandtheshell: exactly - it does (14:04:43) ams: Hm. (14:04:46) ams: Very weird. (14:04:59) meandtheshell: much more to a newbie ... (14:05:42) meandtheshell: how can I view the content of texinfo.el (14:06:03) ams: Easily? (14:06:13) ams: C-h f texinfo-mode RET (14:06:30) ams: And move your point to the bit that says `texinfo.el', and hit RET again. (14:06:31) meandtheshell: ok - I'll try it .. (14:06:40) ams: Should work if you have .el's installed. (14:06:52) meandtheshell: ok - mom (14:07:00) ams: Your problem is really weird. (14:08:31) mortal: hm, the gentoo folks are happily mixing non-free with their distro (14:08:43) lindi-: indeed (14:09:10) lindi-: mortal: and still they say that "gentoo is and will always be free software" on their webpage (14:09:43) ams: lindi-: Not much like Debian. (14:09:52) ams: Not much different than Debian. (14:09:54) ams: Sighs. (14:10:57) meandtheshell: ams: ok - there's no point texinfo.el - just one "C-c C-c TeX-command-master" (14:11:42) ams: When you did: C-h f texinfo-mode (14:11:43) ams: ? (14:11:46) meandtheshell: when i follow that one it's the same window as I said above (14:11:58) meandtheshell: ams: yes (14:12:07) ams: Erm... (14:12:11) ams: Talk about fucked up. (14:12:27) ams: GNU/Linux? (14:12:31) meandtheshell: jepp (14:12:36) ams: Debian? (14:12:44) meandtheshell: jepp (14:12:50) meandtheshell: etch (14:12:56) ***ams gives meandtheshell a bat, please go kill some DD's. (14:13:59) holzplatten left the room (quit: Remote closed the connection). (14:14:11) ams: meandtheshell: Sorry, I have no clue what Debian messed up again. You are probobly better of installing your own Emacs from CVS or a released version than using their packaged cruft. (14:14:58) meandtheshell: hm ... well let's see - I think I did something wrong - (14:15:02) meandtheshell: but what ... (14:15:07) meandtheshell: brrrr (14:15:12) ams: Can you show me your .emacs? (14:15:16) meandtheshell: spend 5h now on that (14:15:24) ams: Here, try the following: (14:15:25) meandtheshell: jepp - sex (14:15:30) meandtheshell: oops - sec (14:15:30) ams: emacs -q (14:15:37) ams: And see if you can reproduce it. (14:15:44) ams: (do that before sending me your .emacs) (14:16:05) araujo left the room (quit: Remote closed the connection). (14:16:12) ams: (and I can't do DCC, so please put it up on some web page, and if that isn't possible, you can always send it to me via email, [EMAIL PROTECTED]) (14:16:35) araujo [EMAIL PROTECTED]/developer/araujo] entered the room. (14:18:31) meandtheshell: hehe - I don't think we need email or everything else because (14:18:34) meandtheshell: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat .emacs (14:18:34) meandtheshell: (custom-set-variables (14:18:34) meandtheshell: ;; custom-set-variables was added by Custom -- don't edit or cut/paste it! (14:19:01) ams: Hm. (14:19:03) ams: Ok. (14:19:14) ams: try starting emacs as emacs -q (14:19:25) ams: Open a texinfo file, and see if you can reproduce. (14:19:35) meandtheshell: hm ... ok (14:19:55) ams: Just open one in a new terminal. (14:20:52) meandtheshell: I did so - and it's all the same ... (14:21:05) ams: Hurm. (14:21:13) ams: Okie. (14:21:17) meandtheshell: funny right ... (14:21:28) ams: emacs --no-site-file (14:21:39) ams: emacs --no-site-file -q (14:21:41) ams: Actually.. (14:21:46) meandtheshell: in terminal - right? (14:22:53) ams: Yeah. (14:22:56) meandtheshell: ahhhhh - my hero - it's working now :-) (14:23:10) meandtheshell: so what happend? (14:23:17) ams: Debian. (14:23:22) ams: They screwed up something. (14:23:23) meandtheshell: really (14:23:37) ams: --no-site-file skips loading the site-file, which Debian modifes. (14:23:52) ams: Notice that emacs loaded a million times faster too. (14:24:12) ams: I can't help you much further than this. (14:24:16) meandtheshell: that's so great to hear - I thougt I'm to stupid - right emacs starts up much faster (14:24:46) meandtheshell: ok - you dont't need to help me further - you did a lot ... (14:24:53) meandtheshell: thx! (14:25:02) ams: You could do the following in the broken emacs: (14:25:09) ams: C-h k C-c C-c (14:25:15) ams: So you get that little help window. (14:25:20) meandtheshell: ok (14:25:23) ams: Then jump to the file where it is defined. (14:25:36) meandtheshell: oha - ok (14:25:44) ams: And search for "C-c" (14:26:00) ams: To see what is being done, and if you have root, you can simply modify that to something else. (14:26:26) ams: Other than that, not much I can do.. Sorry. (14:26:53) meandtheshell: ok - thank you - have a nice day :-) (14:26:54) ams: Already gave you my bat to kill DD's with. (14:27:00) ams: The same to you..
