Package: smartmontools
Version: 6.3+svn4002-2+b2
Severity: important

Hi,

So I started looking into this mostly because after updating a bunch
of machines to Jessie with systemd as init, it rather annoyingly no
longer respected the existing configuration to not run the smartd
daemon ...

But this actually looks to be something of a complete mess.

Not only does it not respect that, but it installs 2 units to not do
it, smartd.service and smartmontools.service, and then not to miss out
on having its part in the hilarity, smartmontools.postinst itself has
two copies of the dh_systemd_enable boilerplate, *both* for just the
smartd.service ...

If this was the new world we were promised, I think somebody sold you
a cheap fake :)

It would be nice if the default was to not run the daemon again unless
explicitly enabled, since the most useful use for this is to monitor
it with something like munin - but it looks like that's not the only
thing that needs fixing in this package for systemd support still.
And that's possibly not an exhaustive list of them, since I stopped
looking at that point.

  Cheers,
  Ron
