I'm treating this bug (#730049) as covering the boot failure described in message #14 <https://bugs.debian.org/730049#14> and bug #717698 as covering the original boot failure described in messages #5, #24, etc. Please keep these issues separate. Do you still see a failure to set up the RAID ("mdadm: No devices listed in conf file were found") on some machines? Can you send the /etc/mdadm.conf file from one of those?
