I've tested "Standard Input=null/Output=syslog/Error=syslog" unit variant on Jessie (without any foreign packages), it works.
Well, sort of (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=807427), but at least it starts and works the same as init version.
