uname -a: - Date: 11.02.05 Method: Non-expert install, booted from sarge-i386-1.iso <http://ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/cd-images/debian-weekly/i386/sarge-i386-1.iso>
Machine: IBM Thinkpad T23 Processor: Intel Pentium III Memory:? Root Device: /dev/cdrom, /dev/hdc Root Size/partition table: <Feel free to paste the full partition table, with notes on which partitions are mounted where.> Output of lspci and lspci -n:
Base System Installation Checklist: E [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it
Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [O] Install boot loader: [O] Reboot: [E]
Comments/Problems: Installer automatically installs a K7-Kernel which does not boot on the T23 (uncompressing Linux message ok, but that's the last message). For a novice, the debian installation just fails. Why can't the user choose among different kernels to be installed? In this case, only a expert installation suceeded, but all the selections had to be redone.
Cheers
