Dear Tobias,
Thanks for the notification of Jason's bug report to Debian.
Dear Jason,
Indeed, the spaces between the letters look very strange. That shouldn't
happen. Just to ensure that this is not a problem of the pdf viewer, could
you try it with the Adobe Reader as well? I know that's a crappy piece of
software and not open source - it's just to rule out that the viewer is to
blame.
If the viewer is fine, we need to track this bug step by step. You may
want to call pdfsandwich with -debug -verbose, as this logs the exact
calls of tesseract and all other programs and keeps the temporary files.
As a first step, the temporary file generated by tesseract (one for each
page) might be worth a look. If the single pdf pages returned by tessaract
have the same problem already, we can rule out the resizing and merging
effects of ghostscript. If they are fine, we know that ghostscript is to
blame.
By the way, as this is most probably not a packaging bug, you might want
to submit this and future bugs directly on the tesseract sourceforge
website, as I usually don't read discussions on the different packaging
websites.
Thanks,
Tobias
