It should be possible, but I probably wouldn't mix a stable system like that. Upgrading systemd/udev will most likely cause other dependencies to be upgraded. Maybe you reproduce the problem in a throwaway VM, which can easily be upgraded? -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
