Thanks a lot for that, it's really appreciated. I've just bumped my homemade backport of 340.93-2 to 340.93-3~bpo8+1 which also allowed me to go back to jessie default glx-* packages (0.5.1) and even better, go forward to kernel 4.2.5. FWIW I didn't run into #799948 when I was on glx-* 0.6.0 and found out about that bug just yesterday by way of the misrouted mail up there. I've got my user in group video since essentially forever, though, and /dev/nvidia* have been 0660 here without issues. The display managers still running as root on jessie obviously helped a lot - I assume the fallout was on stretch/sid only. Regarding the -amd64:i386 kernels being on the way out, I'm currently pondering where that leads me. With the C++ transition still rippling, the KDE 5 feature regressions and all that, I consider sid (and as a result, the current state of stretch) as times a little too interesting for my taste. Nvidia pushing my GPU to legacy doesn't help either - maybe I can finally get to grips with Nouveau. With all this shaky ground, the i386 to amd64 sidegrade seems less intimidating than it used to. For the time being, though, I'll stay with my nice and stable jessie and will continue to occasionally probe the wild waters from an USB thumb drive booting sid ;) Thanks for the fix, Andre. -- Cool .signatures are so 90s... -> Andre Beck +++ ABP-RIPE +++ IBH IT-Service GmbH, Dresden <-
