Package: apt-cacher-ng
Version: 0.8.6-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I recently ran out of room on my root partition and attempted to move my
apt-cacher-ng cache dir to another partition. This resulted in a
massive amount of pain.

The most obvious way to do this is to edit the CacheDir: variable in
/etc/apt-cacher-ng/acng.conf, but this has absolutely no effect.

The reason for this is because of another file in the same directory
with the rather unhelpful name of zz_debconf.conf.

This file, placed there by debconf, has its own CacheDir: setting which
means that the one in the primary config file is completely ignored.

There is no mention of this in the primary config file.

The directory is filled with several files that it looks like I have no
business modifying so the fact that I can see zz_debconf.conf in the
output of 'ls' is not really helpful.

I think that the only thing that would have helped this was a very very
large and loud warning written at the top of acng.conf warning me that
settings in this file can be overridden by debconf.

Something like

# *********************************************
# WARNING
# *********************************************
# Variables set in this file will be ignored.
# See zz_debconf.conf for more information.
# *********************************************

Alternatively, this whole debconf indirection could be scrapped. I'm
not exactly sure what value it brings here anyway.
