Hello there, while doing a backport of KDE 3.5.0 to Sarge, I came across the build-depency on libxaw8-dev. Wondering what it was about, I did a grep in the source tree for Xaw, and found that the only places it is still mentioned are in some comments. % grep -ri xaw . Binary file ./doc/artsbuilder/index.cache.bz2 matches ./admin/acinclude.m4.in:# Check for libraries that X11R6 Xt/Xaw programs need. ./configure:# Check for libraries that X11R6 Xt/Xaw programs need. ./noatun/modules/kjofol-skin/kjloader.cpp: NET::WMState|NET::XAWMState|NET::WMDesktop); ./acinclude.m4:# Check for libraries that X11R6 Xt/Xaw programs need. ./debian/changelog: default Xaw, Ncurses, and Slang. Checking the changelog it seems that the depency is left over from the KDE 2.x days, dutifully updated with each new Xaw version ;-) AFAICS the dependency can simply be dropped, saving backporters one minor stumbling block.
