I also got an error when using the dm-bbr patch from kernel-patch-evms 2.5.3-8 againt linux-source-2.6.14 (2.6.14-7). It's worth noting that the patch doesn't claim to work with this kernel; I overrode it with KPATCH_evms_dm_bbr=2.6.11.
I got the latest tarball for EVMS 2.5.4 from the EVMS site and applied the dm-bbr patch from there. That seems to work. Caveat: I first tried the patch from 2.5.3, which had one reject on Kconfig.
