Good/bad news.

Good: I made a fresh install, which fixed the problem. I usually don't do that,
but I really need this machine to work and I am particularly interested in the
latest driver updates.

Bad: I meant to save a backup of the system to compare it afterwards and find
out what was causing that segfault. Unfortunately I botched that part.

I am very sorry about the last part, I guess you can close this, since there is
no real hope of reproducing that on my side now.

In the process of investigating this, I played a bit with the debs on AMDs
website. As you are obviously aware (since you have patches to fix it), their
dkms stuff does not compile with recent kernels. Is there a strong reason why
those patches never made it upstream?

Best regards,
Florian
