I did not consider using -wc because it said:

 | Merely check that the tree is clean (does not contain uncommitted files), 
 | before building a source package.

Which is *not* saying that it will not run the clean target. So maybe the
description of the individual clean targets could be improved to include what
gets run when?

Thanks! Yes, I think this bug report is mostly to add documentation so that
next time I know better what's going on or which option to pick in my case :)
