a few test commits later, I now found out that the culprit does not seem to be
that option (at least not only). Instead, the problem seemed to have been that
I enabled sbuild to rebuild the source package in the sbuildrc (with
"$build_source = 1;") triggering the behaviour you described in your last mail.

So, yes, if dgit could detect the builder having tempered with the source
package dgit fed to it and then give a helpful error message, I think that
would be sufficient! :)

Is it hard to delete the dgit repository for botch? I did a number of test
commits to diagnose this problem and would like to start the git history from
scratch)
