When I said "previously" I meant:

Some of us who made the switch to aptitude when this was the advice have just 
continued using it - it was only recently I discovered that the recommendation 
has changed to apt-get.

I've just installed a fresh Jessie VM with all the defaults and it does still 
come with aptitude installed, thus my surprise that it was missing from the 
cloud image.

It's not a big deal, I just thought its omission might have been accidental!
