Hi Carsten,

actually I didn't know about that cool feature that you could use an
xterm's title bar as status line. (I only knew that screen is able to
passthrough a request to update the title bar from a shell or
application.)

Yeah, so that bug affects exactly one very knowledgable person while
it adds a nice feature for all others?

a) If I use no personal .screenrc at all, xterm's title is not
   modified.

b) This "problem" only seems to appear if people use "hardstatus
lastline" (then it shows up in the xterm title).

c) Using "hardstatus alwayslastline" solves the issue perfectly and
has no other use in xterm anyway.

(I don't have a working terminal which has a hardware statusline,
so I can't check the behaviour there. They're seldom enough
   nowadays.)

Such comments do not really help to make people fix your issues.
Please refrain from becoming cynical in bug reports.

And BTW, tmux has by far not all features of screen (support for
serial devices, telnet and zmodem for example) and is hence no
alternative at all for quite some people.

I disagree. As explained above you can easily write a ~/.screenrc
which does not fiddle around with your xterm's title bar. And
hardstatus is disabled by default anyways. (Which reminds me of
https://bugs.debian.org/400111, a request to add a status line by
default.)

So this is not really a final "wontfix", but I'm not yet convinced
that this line really causes harm.

                Regards, Axel
