Hi, It seems that you have hit the problem described at the top of this page: http://www.lesbonscomptes.com/recoll/BUGS.html This was a Debian Jessie issue (I think that the aspell packagers were working on a fix), but it apparently found its way into Ubuntu. Please try the workaround from the document (link the .dat files from /usr/lib/aspell to /usr/share/aspell).
