I still don't see why you are opposing the idea to have different versions of the same program installed, and wanting to be able to *check* all of them. I don't oppose it. I just proposed (part of) a way to do it. Change info reader node search method as follows: * if a node is going to be followed, first search *in*the*current*directory* for the respective info file, and if that fails search INFOPATH. I don't oppose that either. Sounds good to me. (It seems orthogonal to the dir file, which is ordinarily how users would see the different available manuals, as far as I can imagine it. Also orthogonal to the question of external cross-references to unversioned manuals. Anyway.)
