I'm pretty sure it was fsck.ext3. Basically, I had bad hardware and my machine would randomly crash. At one crash my partition got badly corrupted and I got this message. I've since sent my laptop to repair and haven't seen any problems since... I guess if it wasn't fsck.ext3, it might have been the kernel.
