I moved ~/.mozilla-thunderbird out of the way, apt-get remove'd and
apt-get install'd it again, and it works fine.
Would be interesting to know, wether just uninstalling and installing
the tbird package again, would have helped too. Since I think you cannot
make any further tests now, I tag this moreinfo. Maybe someone else can
come up with a minimalistic way to reproduce this.
