IIRC, most of the interest of this patch is in the update.sh script. It is aimed at updating at PO and POT files. I think that I sent it because I somehow discovered they aren't updated when building the package. I can't really remember indeed. So, I think that the best is isolating the update.sh script from the patch and, as suggested, use it in the clean target of the debian/rules script. I absolutely can't remember how I ended up in riting this patch.
