I have no idea why yours doesn't work, as I have tried icewm found no problem there. Is there any messages print out in terminal (C-M-F1 if you run it from the menu) when it hangs up? Can you paste the results of `ps aux |grep xsnow` when it start and it hangs?
Sometimes I saw that xsnow may stop a while when I try to close its parent terminal window. Therefore, it would be better to start it from the icewm menu (Programs->Games->Toys). If the problem is still there. You may want to try twm. If the problem is still there. Ideally, you can modify xsnow.c let "debug=1", and print out some debug information to find out what's wrong with it. Otherwise, it will be taged as sarge only.
