I agree that keeping it open is easier, but I'm not finding that works
very well as things stand.  Since my original report I've noticed that
the Description display of installed packages often stops working
after an install, even if the package in question was not involved in
the install.  It seems kind of random; for some packages it does show
the description, and for others it doesn't.

That is, the Description pane show the message about not having
information for an uninstalled package, even though the package is
installed and was installed before I did my apt-get install.  I think
there are similar issues with the other tabs, though I can't swear to
it.
