I was of the same opinion for a while as well (until the
monolithic patch grew out of hands for the fail2ban package ;) )
It is just that some changes seems to be dealt with upstream
already but there is no easy way (besides may be inspecting git log) to
see how those conflicts need to be resolved.

But what I wanted to say is just thanks for maintaining and use whatever
means you find most comfortable for you -- My cry was out of the
moment of weakness I guess ;)
