I might be missing something here, but if you are going to rename the library package, don't you also have to enforce a build against g++-5? Otherwise you might end up with a libfoov5 package which was built against gcc < 5. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
