a) Bug irreproducible upstream on non-Debian systems using older libreadline versions. For details of the discussion, see the thread on r-devel at http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.r.devel/6196 b) Same thread shows debugger info linking it to readline c) Debian backport for stable by Chris Steigies doesn't have the bug either. d) Similar bug reports appear to have been filed on libreadline5.
